Reconciliation & the Role of Education
DAY 1: ARRIVAL/KIGALI CITY TOUR & GENOCIDE MEMORIAL
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport preferably in the mid-morning or afternoon you will be received by a member of our team and start off your safari with a tour of Kigali City prior/after checking in at the hotel.
Visits to Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, which offered a place in which the bereaved could bury their families and friends, and over 250,000 victims are now buried at the site. This site also includes three permanent exhibitions, the largest of which documents the genocide of April 1994. There is also a children’s memorial, and an exhibition on the history of genocidal violence around the world. The Education Centre, Memorial Gardens and National Documentation Centre of the Genocide all contribute to a meaningful tribute to those who perished, and form a powerful educational tool for the next generation. DAY 2: NYAMATA GENOCIDE MEMORIAL/MBYO RECONCILIATION VILLAGE

On this day depart Kigali for Bugesera District of Rwanda. While on this trip visit Nyamata Genocide Memorial: The genocide memorial at Nyamata Church gives a deeply saddening and moving look into the reality of the Rwandan Genocide.
While at the centertake note of the following:
- The real picture of what exactly happened.
- The barbaric treatment of women during the genocide.
- There is a graphic and audio-visual display that will focus particularly on the mass rape, brutalization of women and the use of HIV as a deliberate weapon of genocide.
- It is a learning center about the genocide.
- It is a center for survivors to honor the victims.
After here you will visit Mbyo Reconciliation Village. A place of solace where perpetrators and victims, murderers and survivors, Hutus and Tutsis, are now neighbors with 60 families on ground.
Spend time socializing with the dwellers, taste their traditional yummy dishes and drinks, get entertained from a local dance troupe that will introduce you to the different traditional dance styles. After a long day with the reconciliation community, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kigali.

DAY 3: KIMONYI RECONCILIATION VILLAGE/IBY’IWACU

Today travelto Musanze District of Rwanda. Kimonyi Reconciliation Village, in the cells of Birira and Buramira a sector of Kimonyi in Musanze district is another home to the survivors of the April 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, former militias of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda and former convicts of Genocide crimes who have already served their sentences. This Reconciliation Village was put up in the year 2008 and it houses 188 households.
Listen to stories from different people so as to understand the old genocide days and the current way of life prevailing in the Reconciliation Village.
Enjoy cultural dances by the KIMONYI VILLAGE REDEMPTION DANCERS, a mixture of the “Hutu” and “Tutsi” who travel from village to village, sharing the good message of reconciliation, unity, hope, and peace through dances.
After here you will head to Iby’Iwacu cultural village;this visit will offer you a chance to meet and interact with the local people in their community, with a taste of Rwanda’s culture and traditions. Enjoy displays of all aspects of Rwandese traditions, norms and beliefs as you share the heritage treasures including traditional lifestyles, activities, artefacts and their ways of living. While here enjoy:
- A guided community walk; see the king’s house
- The different types of traditional dances,
- Visit the traditional medicine man; get to know how medicinal trees, shrubs, grass are used to cure local patients.
- Attend a local banana brewery process and have a taste on local banana beer.
- Explore the Batwa pottery making experience, lessons and engagement
Later in the evening drive straight to hotel in Musanze and relax after the long day, with dinner in a peaceful night.

DAY 4: TRAVEL TO GISENYI / GENOCIDE MEMORIAL
Journey time: 1 hr: 13 mins
In the morning after breakfast, you will depart for Gisenyi. This is well known as the biggest town of Rubavu district of Rwanda and the 5th largest town in Rwanda. It is situated in the country’s western province, bordering the north shore of Lake Kivu at the foot of the Virunga Mountains. Gisenyi offers visitors with a stunning sight of the mountain scenery and a cool temperate climate all year round, and it is home to pristine beaches, hiking/biking trails, boat cruises, fishing expeditions among others.

DAY 5: GISENYI TO KIGALI & DEPARTURE
Journey time: 3 hrs: 20 mins
Early in the morning after breakfast, depart Gisenyi back to Kigali so as to check in for your home departure flight. This will mark the end of your tour through Rwanda.
