Day 2: BANGKOK – FULL DAY CITY TEMPLES + GRAND PALACE + THONBURI CANAL TOUR

The Grand Palace Bangkok

Today, take on no less than four of Bangkok’s finest temples and a tour around the city’s fascinating canals. Start out at Wat Traimit – home to the world’s largest solid golden Buddha – before hopping across the old city streets to see an even larger Buddha statue at Wat Pho. The one here may not be solid gold, but it impresses even more thanks to its sheer size and the fact that it is ‘leaning’ on its side – a reference to the Buddha’s “Lion Sleep” position. Hop across the road to the next stop, the magnificent Grand Palace, another sprawling temple complex boasting some of the finest Thai-Buddhist architecture in the entire country. Explore the vast grounds and numerous dazzling buildings, including the highly-revered Wat Phra Kaew, home to the prized Emerald Buddha statue dating back to the 14th Century.

After grabbing lunch, spend the better part of the afternoon on the water, meandering through the quaint canals and taking in the quieter side of life from the seat of a traditional ‘long tail’ boat. Of course, a tour of Bangkok’s Thonburi side isn’t complete without the spectacular and iconic Wat Arun – take time to explore the iconic temple towering 79 metres over the Chao Phraya River.

Grand Pearl Dinner Cruise

Experience a different side of Bangkok with this evening dinner cruise down the Chao Praya River. After being transferred from your hotel to the River City Pier, board the Grand Pearl, the most luxurious cruise line on the river, and prepare to be treated like royalty. Enjoy the cruise’s signature welcome cocktail while you sit back and take in the spectacular views on both sides of the river, including the silhouettes of some magnificent buildings in the city, including the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn.

When the sun has set over the city, a delicious Thai and international cuisine buffet dinner is served. Dine under the moonlight as you are serenaded by live music; then, enjoy an incredible entertainment program including a classical Thai dance show, the bright lights of the city the perfect backdrop. Finally, you will be returned to the River City Pier, from where you may will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 3: BANGKOK – FULL DAY AYUTTHAYA BY CRUISE – GRAND PEARL CRUISE

Ayutthaya By Grand Pearl

Journey from Bangkok to the country’s former capital of Ayutthaya by road. This is your chance to escape the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Stop off at the majestic ‘Bang-Pa-In’ – a gorgeous palace formerly frequented by King Rama IV during the steamy summer months. The waterside complex takes inspiration from Thai, Chinese and gothic design; here, see the intricately-carved camel bone dragon, or snap some photos next to the bright red watch tower overlooking the lake. Head a little further north to Ayutthaya to explore the ancient temple ruins and crumbling pagodas that used to form Thailand’s largest and most important settlement. Afterwards, dine on-board your boat while making your way back to Bangkok. Along the way, enjoy as the riverbank scenery slowly transitions from emerald rice paddy fields to traditional Thai architecture and finally an urban skyline.

Silom Village Dinner

Experience the rich, vibrant history of Thailand through the art of performance dance, during an evening at the exquisite Silom Village in downtown Bangkok. From the moment you enter the Thai-style building that houses the restaurant; you will be greeted with a truly authentic Thai experience, from the dinner feast to the elegant dancers. Throughout your courses of authentic Thai cuisine, enjoy a six-act show of classical dance, depicting the stories of classical Thai literature and tradition that make up the Ramakian,

a story originally performed only for the royal court. Sit back, relax and enjoy your evening of royal treatment while soaking in the delicious cuisine and colourful culture.

Day 4: BANGKOK – FULL DAY DAMNOEN SADUAK FLOATING MARKET & RIVER KWAI

Floating Market

Start this busy day with an early morning departure with your guide, heading for the province of Ratchaburi around 100 kilometres southwest of Bangkok. This quaint old province is home to one of the most famous floating markets in the country, Damnoen Saduak, and there’s ample time to explore the network of canals via traditional longtail boat. You can also walk around, taking in the vibrant sights, sounds, and smells, as well as bargaining for some souvenirs or indulging in some local delicacies.

After your shopping and culture fix, say goodbye to Ratchaburi and head north on the road to Kanchanaburi, home to the world-famous ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ that was built during the Second World War. Take your time to explore this iconic structure, together with the nearby war museum that gives an excellent insight into the horrors that unfolded during the bridge’s construction. The tracks are still in use today; board the train at Nam Tok Station and ride along the notorious ‘death railway’ yourself, passing through the jungles and along a heart-stopping cliff overlooking the river. Afterwards, there’s time to visit the poignant War Cemetery, containing the remains of 6,982 allied prisoners of the war, most of whom lost their lives during the construction of the bridge and rail route stretching to Burma. Return drive to Bangkok in late afternoon
